When retaining an attorney in Maryland, should the client consider the size of the law firm?  While complex matters may require the resources of a large law firm, most legal matters can be handled by an experienced solo practitioner.   The demographics of the legal profession support this statement.

According to a comprehensive survey conducted by the State Bar of California, 21% of all attorneys in the state are solo practitioners.   This figure is similar to attorney employment nationwide, where 20% of all attorneys are solo practitioners.

Moreover, small law firm are prevalent. In California, about one-third of all attorneys work at law firm with 10 or less attorneys.  For most clients, they only need to retain a single, competent attorney.
